I’m a First-Time Leaky!

Welcome, welcome!

So this is your first LeakyCon, huh?
We’re thrilled you are joining us!

We could not be happier that you have chosen to attend LeakyCon and have layed out some of our most frequently asked questions and concerns to help you prepare for your first LeakyCon!  We look forward to seeing you in August!

What is the programming like?

In 2011 we presented over 48 hours of formal and informal programming ranging from serious discussions about the implications of good and evil in the Harry Potter series to Nerdfighter Gatherings to Wizard Rock and everything in between.  There is truly something for everyone and most of our prior attendees have commented that there is actually so much to do that it is hard to fit everything in!

do i need to know people before the conference?

Absolutely not!  One of the best things about LeakyCon is that it is a safe and secure place to meet new friends.  There are plenty of opportunities to start a conversation with someone you’ve never met and remember that everyone attending has at least one thing in common, their love of Harry Potter!  So introduce yourself and start a conversation, you never know where it may lead!

Will I make friends?

This is entirely up to you! Make sure you come to LeakyCon with an open mind and a positive attitude. There are lots of meet-ups and opportunities to chat with fellow attendees and you will be bound to make lots of friends along the way!

What do i bring?

We will be providing a more detailed list of items necessary for registration as we get closer to the conference but some good items to keep in mind are costumes, wands, snacks, comfortable clothes, sneakers, a camera, cash to spend in the vendor room (if you’d like), a positive attitude, a smile and most importantly yourself!

what if i don’t know any wizard rock?

That’s no problem! Many first time attendees have never listened to Wizard Rock or have even been to a concert.  The Wizard Rock concerts are definitely not mandatory but we highly recommend attending even if you don’t know any of the songs.  There is always fun and easy audience participation and lots of dancing, lots and lots of dancing!

Do I have to be a starkid fan to attend?

No, while we love Team Starkid (they’re totally awesome), it is only one part of LeakyCon and you do not need to be a fan to enjoy LeakyCon.

What is “total eclipse of the heart” and do I need to know it?

“Total Eclipse of the Heart” is a song by Bonnie Tyler and has become the very unofficial theme song to LeakyCon.  It started as a way for Melissa to pump up the LeakyCon staff prior to 2009 and its awesomeness has continued to this day.  It is always the last song to be played at the Esther Earl Rocking Charity Ball so grab your air guitar and come ready to sing your lungs out!

What if I still have questions?

Please take a look through our FAQ page to see if we may have already answered your question.  If not please feel free to email help@leakycon.com and we will be happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about being a first time Leaky!
