Call for Proposals: Now Open!

We know you’ve been waiting for this: LeakyCon 2012, August 9-12, 2012 in Chicago is now accepting submissions for proposals for programming.

This conference is about you, the fan. What would you like to talk about, learn to make, discuss with other people who are interested in the same subject? Do you like cosplaying, arts and crafts, Wizard Rock, serious discussions about the deeper meanings in the world of Harry Potter? Then submit a proposal for a program item you would like to see at your conference! The limit is your imagination. Panel, lecture, or dance party, we want to hear all your ideas.

Types of programming can include, but are not limited to:

Lectures: Usually involves one or two people presenting a specific topic to an audience, with or without audio/visual accompaniment, followed by a Q&A session.

Discussion Panels: Several people present and discuss/analyze a topic in front of an audience, usually with a moderator facilitating the discussion and keeping things on track. This should include a structure for Q & A and some audience participation in the discussion.

Round Table: Presenter prepares topics of discussion or activities on a particular subject. Audience members work together and discuss. Room is generally set in round tables.

Workshops: A workshop is a session that focuses on training and teaching participants about a specific subject or skill. Presenter(s) speaks with a practical application in mind. For example, teaching or creating with the audience a how-to. Participation is key. Room is generally set with tables to work at facing the presenter.

Informal Programming: Events like fashion shows, meet up groups and any other fun fan activity you can dream up can be submitted.

For the first time this year, we will be accepting a very limited number of proposals that are not about Harry Potter. They can tie in – last year the “Buffy vs. Harry Potter” panel was a big success! – or be about something new (Doctor Who, Sherlock, etc.) that you feel you would like to discuss or engage in with your fellow Potter fans. A book or other piece of fiction that really spoke to you? Speak about it with us! The limit really is only where you make it, so let’s see what we as a community come up with!

Once you know what you want to do, you can fill out the proposal form and submit your finished proposal. If you have any questions regarding programming please e-mail your queries to programming@leakycon.com.

The deadline for all proposals is MARCH 11, 2012

  1. I think that it woul be a good idea to have an informal programming on My Immortal, AKA: the worst fanfiction ever written.. :)

    • After reading your comment, I decided to check it out for myself. It is the best/worst thing I’ve ever read. And I teach English. I’ve read some terrible writing, but nothing is as terrible as that. I completely support the idea of examining fanfiction at the conference.

    • That would be hilarious :)

  2. yeah i agree, never even heard of it until i read that comment, but now i say we should do that…and invite starkid to comment! it will be glorious! And we let john noe go wild. :D

  3. Yes! My Immortal program = Brilliance :D

  4. Has anyone else seen that “Sh*t LeakyCon Attendees Say” video! Those girls are hilarious! They’re putting out more videos too. I’d love to meet them. WHO ELSE IS WITH ME? =D

  5. @Freckles I saw that video! They seemed really funny.

  6. Yeah, I think a panel about just fanfictions in general would be fun- not just the Immortals- but good and bad fanfictions, and what could have been improved in them.

  7. I agree, talking about fanfic would be great…maybe the merits of canon and non-canon fics? Plus I would LOVE to meet the peeps who made the vid “sh*it leaky con attendees say,” they sound brilliant! *goes to youtube to watch new vids*

  8. It would be wonderful if Daniel Radcliffe, or J.K. Rowling could attend LeakyCon. -E-Cat. I also would love to see a fanfiction poetry reading where people can share/submit their fanfiction and maybe the starkids, or other guest stars could read it.

  9. We DEFINATELY have to do something with My Immortal.

I definately think that this HAS to be a troll. Or I feel really sorry for whoever wrote this… (I mean, really? misspelling the main characters name THAT many times?)

It had to have been the worst fanfic EVER.

  10. I agree- a fanfic discussion would be great! This will be my first time at LeakyCon and I personally am intensely interested in the “Buffy vs. Potter” panel, but I imagine that won’t get repeated :( Maybe a workshop about reading tarot cards or runes?

    • The trick is to do a nonidentical but similar talk the same fans will love (I was on the Harry and Buffy panel at infinitus actually). We could try putting something together now. Boy vs girl chosen ones in stories? The teen who says “I am the Chosen One?” Any ideas?

  11. I think that fanfiction should definitely be brought up, and it would be really cool to see the reactions of some people involved in Harry Potter when introduced to fan fiction, and how extensive their charecter’s (if it is an actor) fan fiction really is!
    Also, StarKids are a MUST.
    Can’t wait!

  13. We should have a LeakyCon “Stitch and Witch”! Then I won’t feel bad ducking out to knit!

  14. I have a question.. I tried to register to go to LeakyCon but it said I needed an ID code? Can someone help me out with this? I would really appreciate it!

  15. I love the stitch witch thing mentioned before- I love crafts! maybe teaching people to knit, or making little harry potter themed crafts. Oh! I also was thinking some sort of scavenger hunt would be fun. We should also be thinking of things that are workable for people standing in line. Thanks for listening :)

  16. I would love to have an etymology discussion. So many of the spells have Latin and Ancient Greek roots

  17. Definitely in favor of a fanfiction conversation and would also like to propose a twitter convo. I wish we could get some of the most popular Harry Potter twitters to reveal themselves at LeakyCon and talk about their accounts etc. I wonder every day who @lord_voldemort7 really is and how he got 2,000,000 followers haha

  18. We should have some sort of tumblr meet up! I love all the people I meet on tumblr, and it would be pretty cool to meet those people in person :D

  19. We should do speed dating! The had it at C2E2 and it was so much fun. They are on Facebook. It sci-fi speed dating!
